1. Where in Avalon is the Buena Vista located?
We are 1/2 block up the hill from the water and about a 10 minute walk from where the boats come in. Our address is 120 Whittley.
2. When is check-in time?
Check in time is 3 pm. If you arrive on the island earlier, we have an area where you can store your luggage until the room is ready for you.
3. When is check-out time?
Check-out time is 11 am. Late check-outs are occasionally available by request on the day of check-out only and before 11am.
4. Do you have an elevator or handicapped access?
We do not have an elevator. There is a flight of stairs to our property and another flight of stairs up to most of the rooms. If you are not able to climb stairs well, we're sorry we will not be able to accommodate you.
5. What should I bring?
Our rooms are very basic and that's one of the ways we keep our rates so low. We provide soap but not shampoo, conditioner, lotion, hairdryers, etc. We do provide bath towels but if you bring your own you can save $10 per night. All bed linens are provided.
6. Do you have air conditioning?
We do not have air conditioning but we do provide large box fans. It is usually cooler on the island than on the mainland so most people find they are comfortable without air conditioning.
7. Do your rooms have heat?
All of our rooms have space heaters.
8. Do you have a two-night minimum like other hotels on Catalina?
We keep half of our rooms available for one-night Saturday stays throughout the year. The exception to this is the weekends of Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day when ALL rooms have a two-night minimum.
9. Are you open year-round?
We usually close the hotel for several weeks during the off season, normally between late November and early January.
10. What is your payment/cancellation policy?
We require a valid Visa, MasterCard or Discover card to make a reservation. Your card will be charged at the time you make your reservation. There is a $25 cancellation fee PER ROOM to cancel rooms up until seven (7) days before arrival date. Within seven (7) days of arrival date, all reservations become non-refundable. (This policy does not apply if weather conditions prevent boat transportation to the island, in which case a full refund will be given).
